LYN EVANS, Musical Director

Lyn was born in Gwent and from a very young age showed an interest and aptitude for music, starting to play the piano when only 5 years of age. Lyn decided to turn her interest in music into a career, and trained to become a Music Teacher at Newton Park College, Bath. Lyn has taught Music since 1977 and at present is teaching Music and other subjects at Ffynone House School in Swansea.

Since 2000, Lyn has taught at the Cwrt Sart Wind Centre on Saturday mornings, undertaking the task of teaching the beginner's recorder class, an important first step for many young musicians.

Between 2004 and 2009 Lyn was the Musical Director of The Port Talbot Youth Amateur Operatic Society, directing a number of very successful productions.

Lyn joined Neath Male Choir in December 2001 as Assistant Accompanist and became Accompanist in June 2002. In 2007 Lyn extended her role as Accompanist to become Assistant Musical Director. In 2009 Lyn was proud and honoured to be appointed as Musical Director of the Choir.

Lyn's time as Musical Director, although very busy is extremely enjoyable and rewarding, the camaraderie, support and encouragement within the choir is special.

THOMAS WILLIAMS, Accompanist

Thomas Williams was born in Swansea, and it was during Year 3 at Morriston Primary School that he started having piano lessons with Miss Sian Richards. In 2003, his family moved to Neath and Mrs Mavis Murray became his teacher for the next four and a half years. Thomas played during assemblies at Gnoll Primary School, but it was during comprehensive school that he became more confident and capable with music.

With the encouragement of his GCSE Music teachers and under the guidance of the peripatetic string teacher, Mrs Kath Millard, Thomas greatly improved his musical ability. Thomas took up violin lessons with Kath Millard in 2009, and she also taught him piano for almost two years. During those two years, Thomas joined the West Glamorgan Youth String Orchestra, arranged pieces for them to play at concerts, rehearsed with his schools choir (accompanying them on piano), and performed in the Abertawe Festival.

At present, Thomas is at Neath Port Talbot College studying A-Levels in Maths, Music, Physics and Graphics and continues to have violin lessons with Kath Millard. Ultimately, he is interested in a career in architecture, but music still plays a key-role in his life.
